Today on Draco Temple, I’ve got something pretty special to share: 6 brand new exclusive spoilers from A Conjuring at Curdle Cove. All spoilers come from The Moonveil Siren faction. I’ve already reviewed 6 spoilers from this faction, as well as the new Keyword CURSE. Check that out here.
Let’s kick off with the Queen of the Occultists herself (in my opinion), Otrix, Siren Returned, and her home, The Bay of Mysteries.

Otrix is back! She escaped Curdle Hill, and has returned to the bay as a Siren, complete with Issadora’s dragon egg! She comes in as a 4Δ rare, with -2 Resolve, which is already pretty good, but her once per turn ability is wonderfully in keeping with both the new CURSE theme plus her CLAIM theme from The Curse of Curdle Hill. Also, it has been confirmed that you can have both original Otrix and new Otrix on your canvas art the same time, for maximum CLAIM.
Once per turn, you can Pay 2 shards to CURSE and CLAIM a Character, with that character returning to their owner’s canvas at the end of the turn still Cursed. This is an incredibly strong ability, especially given the recent rules change around CLAIM that means you can CLAIM a character, then immediately attack with it against an opponent’s character. Even if you don’t attack with it, you can Resolve that character, and it returns CURSED allowing you to trigger other abilities off it, such as our next card, The Bay of Mysteries. Also, it’s worth noting that this is a great antidote to CLAIM. If the opponent has claimed your character, then claim it back with Otrix, and at the end of the turn, since you are the owner of the Character, you keep them.
The Bay of Mysteries has a nice ability and drain potential though 5Δ is quite a lot. Once during your turn, you can DIG for a Sea Character, much like Occultist Den but for the Sirens, allowing you to trade characters and immediately dig them back, or revive your erased Characters. Also, the drain potential is massive, given how many mechanics there are for Cursing characters, and of course this also triggers off cards with the “Cursed Character” type, like the Moonveil Harpy or the Darkwater Selkie below. A very strong rare indeed.
Next up, a Selkie:

Selkies are mythological creatures from Celtic and Norse traditions, but feature especially prominently in Scottish mythology. They have the ability to change between seal and human form, and this is played out very well in our Selkie card duo: Darkwater Selkie and Ezili Algae.
Darkwater Selkie is a 1 Shard character with an ACTION: to FIND or DIG for her human form, Ezili Algae. As soon as you play Ezili, the Selkie hits your dregs. The card serves no other purpose: it is just a means for getting Ezili. So that raises the question: is it worth it?
Ezili Algae is a 3Δ steal 1 Sea witch with a once per turn ability: Pay 2 Shards and Erase any Cursed character and replace it with a Cursed Character from your Dregs for free. As you will likely have the Darkwater Selkie in your dregs at the time, this means you can swap out an opponent’s character for a 1Δ seal with no resolve, which is quite nice. You won’t get to ACTION the Selkie to FIND another Ezili though, as you aren’t deploying the card.
At present, this looks like a nice way of dealing with an opponent’s character who you’ve cursed, but if we get some naturally cursed powerful characters, this could be a nice effect for replacing weak characters on your canvas with stronger ones.
And finally, a couple of Actions:

Shapeshift is an odd ability, if just because it’s a carbon copy of Ezili Algae‘s ability. As before, this is a nice way of dealing with opponent’s problematic characters, especially those with “cannot be attacked” abilities. Also as before, time will tell if there’s any mileage in using this card to upgrade your own characters.
Dark Rainbow is a phenomenal card, with beautiful art. A blanket CURSE of all of an opponent’s cards (not Characters, cards), this card is likely to work out to be either very cheap to play, or actually net you several shards. Plus it could make The Bay of Mysteries immediately very scary. The biggest draw of the card is probably that it’s a 5Δ uncommon, so even if you don’t get much play out of it, it’s a great card for trade fodder. I could see this cropping up in chroma and achrom decks alike; 5 cards on a player’s canvas and this nets you 5Δ when you play it, and that’s not counting any Cursed characters on yours or other players’ canvases already.
Overall, I’m enjoying this consistent CURSE theme running through the Moonveil Sirens faction. There’s strong incentives to play a CURSE heavy deck, and many of these cards will only really provide maximum value in such a deck. This is a great direction of travel for design, as it means the set won’t just provide a handful of cards people can take to upgrade existing decks, but rather it will generate whole new deck archetypes for people to try out.
