Achroma at Comicon

This weekend, for the first time ever (surprisingly), I went to Comicon. Achroma were there, and they asked me to come down and have an interview with Charles aka Viridian. Naturally, I jumped at the chance. It was an opportunity to meet up with other keen players of the game for some IRL games of Achroma, and to pick up some amazing new Achroma products. Comicon itself was an impressive spectacle of all things pop culture, and the Achroma stand looked stunning.

My thanks to Rich for this image. I somehow forgot to get my own photo.

As well as introducing many new folks to the game, they were showing off their new Deluxe Realm Boxes: huge boxes containing every single card from a Realm for Chapter 1; 3 unlimited edition faction boxes, plus the 2 Realm Runner expansions for that realm. Each box also comes with a beautiful Realm Runners guide book, containing an introduction to all the realms, the factions, and some short stories, as well as a complete card checklist. The box also has within it a code to access the new RPG, Achroma Legends, an Achroma playmat for the realm, and a copy of everyone’s favourite realmless Action: HAIM Shard Cache. I was very pleased to pick up a signed copy of the Realm Box for The Siege of Draco Temple (what else), and I love it.

After having a chat with the team, those of us who were there found a table and played a lot of Achroma. I think I played 20+ games, including some 1v1s, multiplayers, and even some 2v2s, which were a lot of fun, if occasionally a bit hectic. Special mention goes to Torus for pulling off some impressive wins with his Asa/Achrom deck (I’ll have to convert my Asa/Chroma deck to Achrom after Spirata Fall), and to Lewis’ Freeze achrom deck, both of which were a particular challenge to play against. It was so much fun playing so many casual games against everyone in this wonderful community who made it down.

I missed the laset Grand Tournament, and felt like this more than made up for it. The next big events coming up are the Sunday 19th November tournament at Patriot Games with an enormous prize pool (wish I could go) and the Achroma Showcase on Thursday 30th November in Soho, London. I went to the first Showcase event in May (and wrote about it here), and am looking forward to this one.

It looked like there were lots of new people getting into the game at comicon, and hopefully I’ll get a chance to meet some of you at a future event, or somewhere for some casual games of achroma.

Disclosure: Achroma paid for my travel and ticket for comicon, and gifted me a Deluxe Realm Box Set.
