All the Monsters of Norso cards have finally arrived at Five Realms Gaming in Poole, and cards are getting shipped out tonight or tomorrow. To celebrate, let’s have a look again at the 6 legendaries from the set. I ran a poll on discord to see which people are most excited about playing, and I’ve put the numbers of votes over the characters:

I’ve already reviewed Astar and Flora here, and Sigrun and Aries here, however The Abyss and King Orus are relatively new spoilers.
King Orus‘ ability to resolve all opponent’s Achroma Effects as if you were that player is pretty huge. And accordinly he costs a hefty 6 shards for only a +2 resolve. One issue with this card is he’s very situational. For sure, he can win you a game, but you need to play him at the right time. Too early, and you don’t get much benefit. Too late and your opponent might snatch the victory first. He’s also not particularly good against decks that rely on trading to win. All that being said, there will certainly be matches he wins, but I can’t see myself using him much in constructed play due to his inconsistency.
The Abyss is an incredibly solid location for 6 shards. It has 2 steal, but its ability to deal 2 damage to all characters and drain 1 for every character that survives is enormous. Not only can this translate into an almighty drain, as well as certain death for Ray and most of his friends (Dracon and Carmella for instance), it will trigger VENGEANCE on all your characters with a Shard Value greater than 2. We’ve only seen a couple of VENGEANCE abilities so far, but assuming several high Shard Value characters have decent VENGEANCE effects in this set, this card is going to be very interesting to play, and it’s not terribly surprising that it took the majority of the votes.
Queen Flora and Astar, the Minotaur received no votes. I think these cards are decent, but at the end of the day, Flora isn’t a new mechanic as it works with old Traders tricks, so I can’t blame people for not being too excited by this card. Astar is a very nice monster indeed, but I think he’s overshadowed by the more powerful achrom choice, The Abyss, which is probably why he didn’t see any votes.
My absolute favourite of the set though has got to be Sigrun. I’ve already tested her and she’s looking very strong. While I do prefer playing achrom for the most part in casual games, I could see myself using this Character a lot in the coming months.
That’s all for now. I cannot wait to get these cards in hand later in the week and get some games in.
